Disneyland has finally opened their newest park addition, Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge. One of their fully functional rides is the Millennium Falcon ride at Smugglers Run.
Currently you still need reservations to enter Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge. There is a mile long list of rules and procedures to getting in, which I understand. Disneyland is trying to get ahead of the traffic before it becomes a safety hazard or a serious problem. I have an friend on the inside who is going to give me a full detailed report next weekend. But until then, I will rely on the videos of those who have already documented everything.
At a glance, the Millennium Falcon ride reminds me of Star Tours. But it appears to only seat maybe 5-6 individuals, so this could already lead to long wait times. I’ve been told that each person has the opportunity to interact with the controls in front of them. This then add points to their total score tallied at the end. I’m not sure if you are competing with the other people in the ride or if you’re all working together for a high score. Does anyone know?
I am impressed with the automation for the audio animatronic inside the line. He looks like a Jack Sparrow alien (at 1:56)… but I’m more impressed with the different types of movement programmed for his speech. Disney really ought to update Small World next, don’t you think?
At any rate, the other ride is not yet open, but is scheduled to be available fall 2019. I also believe that Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge is not yet open in Florida. But also is scheduled for open closer to fall 2019.
I’m not sure what the other ride is supposed to be like. After riding the most epic ride in from Avatar in Disney World, I expect nothing but exceptionally high quality now. Disney has always been raising the bar for themselves, and that Avatar ride was the new limit of how high the bar is set.
