Former FBI agent and body language expert Joe Navarro breaks down the various ways we communicate non-verbally.
Everyone is fascinated with body language and how to better understand our friends, family, and colleagues through non-verbal cues. It’s helpful in order to read a situation that is escalating quickly or maybe just trying to diffuse conflict before it arises. The better we understand non-verbal cues, the better we can communicate with one another.
I used to watch Lie To Me, a TV show all about body language and using it to detect dangerous lies. But of course, Hollywood exaggerates many things, and non verbals is definitely one of them. So why not learn from the expert, Joe Navarro who used his skills to catch spies! Do you think you would deduce the same conclusions from these non-verbals? Do you think it’s possible to hide tells in a Poker Game?
Some misconceptions:
- Crossing your arms doesn’t automatically mean your self defensive.
- Touching your nose, face, or ear during a conversation doesn’t mean deception.
Things to consider when observing someone’s body cues is to think, what is this individual “transmitting”?
- How are they dressed?
- How is the person carrying themselves?
- What is this individuals posture?
- Can we see blink rate?
